Records of Comptroller Samuel Pickens, 1821-1823.

Records consisting of correspondence, reports and accounts. The majority of these records relate to the controversy surrounding the State Bank and private banks. Included are several items relating to taxes owed by private banks and debts owed to the banks by the state. Banks represented are the Tombeckbe Bank, the Planters' and Merchants' Bank of Huntsville and the Bank of Mobile. Also included is a report presented by Comptroller Pickens to the General Assembly on the establishment of the State Bank, an account listing payment due to Thomas Murray for services rendered to the State, and a letter from commissioners leasing land in Monroe Co. concerning the lease and a survey of the land.
